The change in ownership will bring a few changes to the business, most notably the name. We wanted to reflect the sophisticated nature of our menu but still convey that it is a relaxed and casual setting at the beach so we settled on “Blue Surf Cafe”. Very minimal changes will be made to the breakfast and lunch menus. You will still get the same fresh, quality items you’ve come to expect as well as the same high quality service as no changes have been made to staff or management. Where you will see a noticeable change is the dinner menu. We are looking to elevate all levels of dinner. The menu will be expanded with well-balanced and playful dishes, appetizers and desserts. The dinner service will change from a counter service style to a full table service at night. The goal is to not only continue giving our customers the quality breakfast and lunch they have come to expect and love, but to become one of their favorite dinner destinations too. Along with a more comprehensive dinner menu, we have also expanded our beer and wine selections to compliment the new dinner menu and provide a more well-rounded and pleasurable dining experience.

April 2nd marks the fourth annual United Nations Autism Awareness Day. The Racine Commons shopping center will be participating in this “Light It Up Blue” Campaign just as national landmarks such as Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building and Australia’s Opera House in Sydney will be doing throughout the month of April, raising awareness and funds for autism. Autism, a disease that affects more and more families each day. In fact, new statistics report autism affects 1 in 110 children. (1 in 70 are boys.) Blue is the designated color for autism.

Racine Commons will do its part to light up the night sky with blue lights from March 31 through April 9. Shop owners have enthusiastically embraced this campaign and are offering a variety of specials with a portion of the proceeds going to “Autism Speaks” (see additional information below). Examples include Island Florals by Roxanne’s sale of wrapped bunches of blue iris, the popular Fuzzy Peach will feature a blue tart frozen yogurt selection, get blue hair extensions from Passions Hair Salon or stop by Lula Balou, who is donating 10% of blue item purchases to the campaign. This is Racine Commons’ first year participating in this event, largely through the efforts of Island Florals owner, Roxanne Thompson. When Roxanne presented the idea to the shopping center’s landlord and fellow shop owners, everyone was eager and willing to participate. Especially when she explained why this campaign is so near and dear to her heart. “I have a grandchild with autism and know the hardships these families face every day dealing with the management of this disease. I wanted to do something to raise awareness for the disease and have been overwhelmed by the support I have received from my neighbors at Racine Commons.”
